Railings

Spiral Staircase

An attractive and safe spiral staircase requires railings on both the flight of stairs as well as to connecting surfaces or walls. Connection railings are often called ground railings, arch railings, balcony railings, etc.

Weland makes a number of different types of railings as standard, but if necessary, we can customise railings according to the customer’s wishes. Several railings are also stocked and can be delivered immediately.

Weland can also offer other railings for the immediate area where the stairs are positioned.

Standard Balustrade

Weland produces four different railings for spiral staircases. The choice of railing depends mainly on where the stairs are to be placed and whether children will be in the area where the spiral staircase is installed. All railing systems are hot dip galvanized as standard. The height of the railing is ~43-1/2” at the nose of the step.

Alternative railings

Railings with sheet metal, perforated metal and wire mesh are other variants of railings made by Weland. This type of railing complies with the 4" sphere rules, i.e. the opening is a maximum of 4”.

Tubular infill panels

This balustrade with tubular infill panels complies with the 4" sphere rules, i.e. the opening between the tubes and the balusters is maximum 4”.

Balustrade with intermediate rails

This balustrade can be furnished with 1, 2, 3 or 4 intermediate rails of 2” x 1/8” flat bar. This choice does not meet the 4” sphere rule.

Standard Industrial Balustrade

Standard industrial balustrade with one baluster per tread is often used for industrial applications. It may also be applied to emergency egress staircases.

Crenellated Mesh/Wire Mesh

Raised railings

The spiral staircase can be fitted with a raised railing. This is a railing solution with high stairs and when there is a sense that the railing is too low.
